Pram races apparently began in the UK in the 1940s, and are a way of having fun whilst raising money for local charities. Groups entering the ‘race’ wear fancy dress and decorate their pram with a theme. They carry charity collection buckets for the good causes as they make their way round the route, with pubs as stops along the way, and the village is packed with people supporting them.
The Pram Race in Windlesham, Surrey, takes place each year on Boxing Day and there are prizes for the best dressed, the fastest, the best engineered and the best under 18s team. As a tribute to all the people taking part to raise money for local charities, and for the volunteers and organisers who make sure everyone gets around safely, I thought I’d capture this rather quirky British tradition in stereoscopic 3-D. If you need any help seeing the images in 3-D, please see this post and this post.
I must also add a personal thank you to the ‘Just Stop Oil’ peeps for organising a protest to be photographed in 3-D at such short notice 😉
It’s not every day you get to see Hobbits rubbing shoulders with Pikachu, Dr. Evils, the Red Arrows and Christmas leftovers, and I hope that by capturing it all in 3-D you can get a sense of the wonderfully positive and fun atmosphere.

Excellent stereos, thanks for posting these. I particularly liked the through the window image so the green dinosaur. We have a similar Boxing Day event in Matlock Bath, but this is on the water – a fancy dress raft race. Unfortunately this year it was cancelled because of too much water in the river. Best wishes John

I’m so sorry to hear it was cancelled. I’ve visited the Matlock Bath Illuminations, but I didn’t know there was a Boxing Day raft race; it sounds fantastic! I really enjoy learning about these fun traditions, so thank you for letting us know about it.
