3-D Capture Coming to Samsung Galaxy Smartphones

3-D Capture Coming to Samsung Galaxy Smartphones

Ahead of the expected Galaxy XR headset release next month, along with the Android XR Platform, it has also been disclosed that certain Samsung Galaxy phone users will soon be able to capture spatial photos and videos, much like the iPhones’ Spatial capabilities.

From the Android Authority website:

Sammobile reports that a new version of the Camera Assistant app (v4.0.0.3) is available on the Galaxy S25 FE but not yet on other Galaxy devices. This new version of the Good Luck module doesn’t open any exclusive functionality on the Galaxy S25 FE. However, when the app is installed on a Galaxy S25 Ultra, users can spot a new “3D capture” feature in the app’s settings.

Also from Android Authority:

Ice Universe shot a video using the new feature in 4K 30fps, and shows up with a “Shot in 3D” label in the Gallery app.

YouTube Video, including tutorial, from VelianSpeaksTech (please click on the image to be directed to the video):

ImmerVR have posted examples on their social media platforms, and have made it possible to use the 3D Capture with VR headsets using their ImmerGallery app: https://www.facebook.com/immerVR. They report the captured Spatial Photos are .heic at 4000×3000 pixels per eye, and Spatial Videos are 1920×1080 per eye, using a Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Whilst we await the roll-out, including to older Galaxy devices (please), it’s exciting to know that the iPhone’s Spatial capabilities are finally coming to certain Samsung devices. Don’t forget Masuji Suto’s 3DSteroid Pro app, like the i3D Steroid app, will be able to convert spatial photos to side-by-side stereoscopic 3-D photos too!
