In-Person 3-D Talk and Workshop: ‘Visual Arts in the Stereoscope: An Overview’, 22nd Nov. 2025, Long Compton, UK.

The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) Visual Arts Group are holding a day of presentations at their Rollright meeting with the afternoon session, given by the Brian May Archive of Stereoscopy curators Denis Pellerin and Rebecca Sharpe, on ‘Visual Arts in the Stereoscope: An Overview’.

Some of the information from the RPS website:

We have two great presentations lined up for you at our next Rollright meeting, on November 22nd, at Long Compton Village Hall.

Morning Session: 10am until 12.35pm: Dr. Nicholas Posner

We welcome Dr. Nicholas Posner, a retired G.P. who also worked as a portrait photographer specialising in Politicians and Celebrities.

His work has been retained by the National Portrait Gallery ,and he has agreed to come along and share his experience with us.

Afternoon Session: 2.00pm until 4.30pm: ‘Visual Arts in the Stereoscope: An Overview’, a 3-D talk and workshop given by the Brian May Archive of Stereoscopy.

We are privilege to have with us Denis Pellerin a distinguished photo historian, researcher, author, and lecturer. He is also co-curator of the Brian May Archive of Stereoscopy and a co-director of Sir Brian May’s London Stereoscopic Company. His talk will introduce stereoscopy and its use in the visual arts, including examining sculpture, painting, architecture, fashion, and design in the stereoscope.

We could not wish for a more knowledgeable and distinguished international expert to introduce us to this fascinating segment of the world of photography.

As if that was not enough, Denis will be accompanied by the other curator and archivist of the Brian May Archive of Stereoscopy, Rebecca Sharpe ARPS, who will bring a handling collection for close examination of stereo viewing and taking equipment, demonstrating different ways of photographing stereoscopic images, and presenting and viewing the results, including digital and analogue.

The meeting will be at the usual RPS Visual Arts Group Rollright venue – Long Compton Village Hall, and is open to everyone. Doors open from 9am for a prompt 10am start, with welcome refreshments from 9.30am.

This meeting is charged at £10.00 and can be paid via the RPS Events Website or cash on the door.

Looking forward to welcoming as many of you as can join us for what promises to be a full and fascinating day.
