Dr. David Barber, founder and author of the PressPhotoMan Blog, has rediscovered and thoroughly researched pioneer press photographer and amateur stereoscopist James Edward Ellam (1857-1920), who was best known for his stereoviews for the Underwood & Underwood company of King Edward VII & Queen Alexandra, including in their Coronation robes.

Photohistorian, lecturer and writer Dr. David Barber is a researcher of the influence of stereoscopy on early press photography and his PhD thesis, “Another Dimension: Stereoscopic Photography and the Press, c. 1896-1911,” was published by Durham University in May 2023.
